My New Adventure

For my latest adventure, from October 2019 to February 2020, I have reverted to my backpacker roots as this seems to be the easiest and cheapest way to travel through South East Asia.

I will be starting in Myanmar, a controversial place to visit, with travellers against supporting a military regime or in favour of supporting the locals, it is now much more accessible to foreigners. Then I will pass through Northern Thailand and head into Laos along the Mekong River. Laos seems to be less popular with western tourists than its neighbours but looks to have a lot to offer, and I expect to do a lot of my travelling there in boats! Entering Vietnam in the North, I will start in the mountains and then drop down to the coast for another boat trip in the famous Halong Bay, before heading south along the coast to the capital, Ho Chi Minh City. From there, I will turn north into Cambodia, spending some time on the south coast and then a week exploring the temples of Angkor. Finally, I will cross back into Northern Thailand to the bright lights of Bangkok, with a short side trip to the famous bridge over the River Kwai.

The plan is to spend a month in each country but, as seasoned travellers know, not all plans go to plan. To see what I’m up to you can follow me on my new blog:
